As I sit here and type this, an eerie silence has taken over the house. It gets this way every time Lori has a call night in the ER. The kids are in bed, and no TV sounds are emanating from the other room . No voices can be heard talking on the phone, and no music playing in the background....nothing.....just deathly silence. Most nights I would give anything for this peacefulness and I am grateful for the calm, but having to sleep in a lonely bed knowing that Lori will not be home for the night is a tough price to pay for this serenity.
Well, I guess I will take advantage of the surroundings, and make an early night out of it. I will leave you with a poem.
Now Close the Windowsby Robert Lee Frost Now close the windows and hush all the fields: If the trees must, let them silently toss; No bird is singing now, and if there is, Be it my loss. It will be long ere the marshes resume, I will be long ere the earliest bird: So close the windows and not hear the wind, But see all wind-stirred. Goodnight to all......sweet dreams.
William
