As I sit down to type this, the faint ringing in my ears gently reminds me of the good times experienced last night. It's not very often that one gets to relive a little bit of their past, and gets to have so much fun in the process. Yesterday evening was the exception, and I am still smiling from my good fortune.
You see, last month Lori and I celebrated our 10th anniversary, and much to my surprise and elation, as part of my gift from Lori, she presented me with 2 tickets to the RUSH concert. For those of you who do not know me, RUSH is my all time favorite rock group, and I have loved their music for almost 30 years. It was a wonderful gift, and I had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of April 25th for quite some time.
Lori and I were able to hire a baby sitter, and after she arrived at 6:00pm last night, we left the house for our first official "date night" in months. The concert was held at the large amphitheater in Dallas, and the weather could not have been more cooperative. It was an absolutely beautiful night with just a little wind, and temperatures in the upper 60's.
When you have been playing music since 1968 you develop quite a following, and as one would guess, quite an eclectic crowd. Ages varied from 6 years old to people in their mid 60s, from bikers to businessmen, all with one thing in common.....their love of great music. As you might have guessed, none left disappointed.
RUSH has been playing so long, and have so many great songs, that they are not like other bands. While most bands have a need for a warm up band to play before they come on stage, RUSH simply starts their own concerts and plays hit after hit for next 3 hours. It is absolutely amazing to watch 3 virtuosos on the stage at the same time. I have been to 4 RUSH concerts now, and each and every time I am still amazed at the wall of sound that is presented by this group of musicians. It's simply hard to believe that just 3 people can create such a deep rich sound.
From the first note of "Limelight" (their opening song) to the last note of "YYZ" (their closing song) they were fantastic. Each song eliciting many great memories from years gone by. I do not know if this will be there last tour.....I sure hope not, but if it is, I am glad I had a chance to see them one last time.
A big thanks to my wife Lori for getting the tickets. It was a great gift and I had a blast. Thanks for going with me, and Happy Anniversary.
William.
PS. For those of you that like RUSH and for those of you that want to know who they are, here is their closing encore number YYZ. This is an animated Windows Media Video featuring their incredible drummer Neil Peart.
